Jason Funderburke, 38, of Hempstead, was found guilty of robbery and related offenses in Suffolk County Court Wednesday, March 12, in connection with the August 2023 attack.

Funderburke and an unnamed accomplice approached Joseph Slinger outside his Slinger-Hasgill Funeral Home, located in Amityville on Sunrise Highway, at around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2023, according to prosecutors.

The pair displayed a photo of Slinger’s family and demanded money at knifepoint, prosecutors said. When Slinger refused, both men began punching the victim, with Funderburke stabbing him twice and stealing his wallet and phones.

Slinger was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital, where he was treated for stab wounds and internal bleeding. No other employees were injured in the attack.

Funderburke was arrested the following December, as Daily Voice reported. His accomplice has not been arrested.

In court Wednesday, a Suffolk County jury convicted him of three counts of robbery and one count of assault, all felonies. He faces up to 25 years in prison when he’s sentenced next month.
